Whether you think it’s a bit overrated or you consider it your favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day becomes a much more important day once you’re in a relationship. This February 14th, you and your partner’s festivities will likely look a bit different, but just because we live in unprecedented times doesn’t mean that the holiday can’t still be special.

In this blog from McCall Homes, we’ll give you a few of our favorite ideas for how to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a COVID-friendly way right at home. If you’re engaged or planning to move in with your other half anytime soon, be sure to check out our collection of home builds and available lots in Billings. From starter homes for first-time buyers to home designs with multiple master bedrooms, we have the variety of floor plans to accommodate your needs and actualize your ideal love nest.

Get Your Game On

Unplug for the evening and celebrate Valentine’s Day with some friendly (and flirty) competition. Break out the board games, card decks, and other traditional forms of entertainment, then choose your favorites and start to play! Card games that feature intimate questions to ask each other can also be a fun way to stimulate new conversation and learn things about each other you didn’t know.

For example, both you and your partner could pick one or two beloved board games from childhood. This gives each of you the opportunity to wax nostalgic and reminisce, while also sharing some personal insights and memories with one another. If that’s a bit too sappy for your style of romance, you can always amp up the energy and battle it out over an intense game of chess or a super-serious Scrabble session.

Up Your Movie Night

Is there any first-date idea more classic than going to the movies? No matter how long you and your partner have been together, it can be a fun and romantic experience to create your own at-home cinematic space for an evening. Recreate one of your first dates at home by renting the first movie you saw together.

Recreate one of your first dates at home by renting the first movie you saw together.

To create the DIY theater experience, pile up the blankets and pillows, dim the lights, and get the popcorn cooking. Get your favorite movie candy—licorice, Milk Duds, M&Ms and make a movie buffet. And if you don’t have a dimmer switch on your lighting system, use candles around a darkened room instead to produce an equally ambient atmosphere. Add to the date-night experience by prepping for your date in advance. Bring flowers. Do your hair and makeup. Wear a first-date outfit. Make it feel special, not just like any other Netflix-binging Saturday night.

Channel Your Inner Artist

You’ve undoubtedly encountered one or two of those “canvas and cocktails” or “palette pubs” in the last few years, and there’s good reason to consider going to one of these businesses once we’re not — you know, in a global pandemic and whatnot. As for this year, you might just have to create your own artistic area to get crafty with your Valentine!

Make an occasion out of the process from start to finish: go shopping (online or in socially distanced stores) together to pick out your paints, brushes, canvases, or whatever artistic mediums you’ll be using. Then create your own “menu” with fancy script, red or pink hearts, or whatever you’d like! Once the cocktail list is complete, you can prepare or mix your partner’s drink, and they can do the same for you — it’s always fun to spoil the people you love.

Last but not least, set up your Valentine’s Day “artist’s studio” somewhere appropriate in your home, whether it’s the dining room table or a large picnic blanket laid over the living room floor. Turn on music, or even a Bob Ross video, and let the romance flow as freely as the creativity!

Cook Something New Together

Find a 3-course meal tutorial online or order from a meal subscription box and make cooking together a fun experience. If you don’t live together, then surprise each other…..he brings appetizers and dessert. She makes the main course. Each of you bring a couple bottles of bubbly and do a wine or beer flight tasting together. Don’t forget to put together your favorite romantic playlist and follow dinner with a little living room dancing.
